With it being so close to season and some of us not wanting to take a chance at not getting a picture of that mature buck that should be coming to our feeders, I decided to post this from The Hunting Game Forum. They had a great discussion and actually am now thinking of trying a new game camera before General Deer Season starts…

So far I have had good experiences with the Spypoint brand. The camera runs off six AA batteries and I can get about 3000 pictures out of it, if not more. The IR models leave a little to be desired on the night photos but the daytime pictures are crystal clear. They have a model that can be switched from IR to Flash but I haven’t needed to replace a camera in the last few years, so I haven’t bought one. This is the fourth year I have owned two of the IR models and so far I haven’t had any issues.

I also have 3 spypoints and have had pretty good luck with them. They take good daytime pics and have great battery life, but im having some issues with the IR. If I get more than 1 deer in the pen I get alot of blurred pics (I get alot of good ones too) and one camera is starting to get several blacked out photos at night like it flashes to early or too late. But I just dont like the IR cameras as much as the flash. They say the flash will scare deer but i used one for a long time and had big deer pics with it and it was not an issue, im sure it can affect some deer more than others but I havent noticed a real negative impact. So im going to replace the one bad camera with a Cuddeback Ambush. We’ll see what it does.

I bought 2 wildgame innovations cameras (micro red 8) to try out this year. The picture quality is pretty good and the battery life has been really good, but one of the camera takes a ton of black out and white out pics…don’t have a clue why. Both are set exactly the same. Overall they have done the job, but they haven’t been so good that I don’t want to try something else out.

I bought a couple of 2013 Bushnell 8MP Trophy Cam HD’s about mid summer and have been really impressed with the easy setup, quality of the pictures/videos, and battery life from one of them thus far. Won’t ever know about the other one because an illegal stole it. I had it in a steel box locked and bolted to a big mesquite and they still were able to rip it off the tree before I could even check it for the first time… talk about pissing me off!!! the tree so if they aren’t swimming across with bolt cutters they aren’t gonna get em. I replaced the stolen camera with a smaller/cheaper Bushnell brand camera (can’t remember the model) but haven’t been back South to check it yet… I’ll add an update once I have used them a little longer and have more to report on.

I have had problems with every camera I have ever used and can not give props to any! I like Cuddeback, but don’t like the flash of the ones I have. I have a Primo’s… batteries die after a week. So far my Cheap SpyCam has been the best camera that hasn’t failed me yet. I had a small Bushnell but it crapped out after a year. I’m thinking of using a polaroid and saying the heck with it!
